Rand Paul’s landslide and Richard Blumenthal’s lies

19 May

Dr. Rand Paul crushed Kentucky Secretary of State Trey Grayson in the GOP U.S. Senate primary last night, 59% to 35%.   Paul, son of Texas congressman and 2008 GOP presidential candidate Ron Paul, was attacked by the GOP establishment throughout the campaign, but to no avail.  Rand Paul had the message and the backing of Tea Party activists while Grayson had the support of all the big government Republicans, from U.S. Senate Minority Leader Senator McConnell to Dick Cheney and Rudy Giuliani, among others.

In the general election, the Democrats will throw millions of dollars in the race to defeat Rand Paul, accusing him of wanting to ‘turn back the clock”–that’s code for adhering to the U.S. Constitution.  The Dems and their sycophants in the mainstream media will portray Rand as an “extremist” because he wants to abolish the Department of Education.  How did American kids learn before 1977, when the federal government created this monstrosity?

The mainstream media will assist the Democrat’s upcoming scurrilous campaign against Rand Paul.  Every top Democratic official will visit Kentucky to call Rand Paul “dangerous, out of touch,” and use every code word to paint him as the second coming of Adolf Hitler.  That’s how despicable the Democrats are–demonize a U.S. Senate nominee  whose loyalty is to the oath he takes to uphold the U.S. Constitution.

If Rand Paul wins the general election in November, he will become the de facto leader of the Republican Party.  With Ron Paul in the House of Representatives and Rand in the U.S. Senate, the freedom movement will take a great leap forward, setting the stage for another Ron Paul presidential campaign in 2012.

Meanwhile in Connecticut, the state’s attorney general, Richard “I’ve misspoken” Blumenthal, who is seeking the Democratic nomination for the U.S. Senate, held a press conference yesterday explaining that he “misspoke” when he said that he served in Vietnam when he was in the Marine Corps reserves.

The old joke about how do you know when a politician is lying,  see if his lips are moving!  applies to Blumenthal.  As he goes around the state pandering to veterans’ groups, no asked him at yesterday’s press conference, “Did you support the War in Vietnam?”  If he had said yes, then why did he not volunteer for duty in the jungles of southeast Asia?  If he did not support President Johnson’s war, then why does he sound like he did when he speaks to veterans?

In other words, Richard Blumenthal, epitomizes what is wrong with career politicians:  they lie, will say anything to get votes, and are power hungry.  As H.L. Mencken remarked:   “The government consists of a gang of men exactly like you and me. They have, taking one with another, no special talent for the business of government; they have only a talent for getting and holding office.

The Democrats of Connecticut have a choice: will they support as their nominee for the U.S. Senate a serial liar or will they say enough is enough and reject his prevarications.    And if the Democrats do rally around Blumenthal,  this will say volumes about the Democratic establishment’s character and integrity.   Moreover, if Blumenthal wins the U.S. Senate seat, the people will get what they deserve–a lying, power hungry statist to represent them in the Washington DC, where serial liars and plunderers rule the country.
