In like a lion, out like a lamb: Christie abandons property-tax reform | Mulshine

01 Mar

The solution to property tax “reform” and school funding is my plan–public schools should become nonprofit organizations funded by tuition, fees, grants, etc.,, not the state income tax and local property taxes.  In other words, separating politics from education.  Moreover, this is the only fair plan– parents who send their children to nonpublic schools or homeschool would pay for their children’s education just as they pay for their children’s other needs.  Childless individuals and couples would not be forced to pay for the needs of other families.  This is called justice and freedom.  In short, we need a “revolution” that ends coercion in education.

The funding of public colleges and universities is currently a hybrid of tax dollars, tuition, fees, grants etc.   However, tax dollars are becoming a smaller proportion of funding for these institutions.  In short, they will eventually become financially independent. It is not time to implement a strategic plan for the financial independence of all public institutions.

“Seven years ago Chris Christie came into office promising to deliver the property-tax reform that was promised half a century ago; On Tuesday he made it clear we won’t see that…”
