Mitt Romney declares war on Iran

10 Nov

Mitt Romney declares war on Iran in a Wall Street Journal op-ed today.  He cites an International Atomic Energy Agency report that alleges Iran may by working feverishly to make nuclear weapons.  However, Justin Raimondo waded through the report and concluded the IAEA’s study is ambiguous at best about Iran pursuing a nuclear weapon program.

Yet, one of the GOP presidential “Plastic Men,”  Mitt Romney, is convinced Iran is a grave threat to the United States and other countries in the Middle East, as president he would “impos(e) a new round of far tougher economic sanctions on Iran. I will do this together with the world if we can, unilaterally if we must. I will speak out forcefully on behalf of Iranian dissidents. I will back up American diplomacy with a very real and very credible military option. I will restore the regular presence of aircraft carrier groups in the Mediterranean and the Persian Gulfregion simultaneously. I will increase military assistance toIsraeland coordination with all of our allies in the region. These actions will send an unequivocal signal toIranthat theUnited States, acting in concert with allies, will never permitIranto obtain nuclear weapons.”

In short, Romney wants to prepare for a war against a country that has not threatened the American people.  He wants to impose economic sanctions against a people who are under the thumb of an authoritarian regime.  This is the legacy of George W. Bush’s “compassionate conservatism” and neoconservative desire to rule the world.

With Romney surrounded by the same Bush foreign policy advisors who get us into a 10-year war in Afghanistan and planned the invasion of Iraq, the former Massachusetts governor is nothing more than a neoconservative warmonger dressed up as an “astute” business executive.  The media should not give the blood thirsty Mitt a free pass on his egregious foreign policy ideas.

And Ron Paul. in the next debate. should hammer all his pr0 war opponents unmercifully for asserting the federal government should be the sheriff  of the Middle East and policeman of the world unless they want to have permanent war, massive inflation, and trillion dollar deficits as long as we try to maintain a global empire.
