What’s wrong with the federal government?

The federal government is shut down. Well, not the whole federal Leviathan, just enough to give the illusion that Republicans are anarchists who want to destroy the welfare state and all the goodies that flow from Washington DC to the American people.

The reality is that Republicans have been partners with the Democrats for several decades building up America’s welfare-warfare state. When George W. Bush was in the White House the budget exploded after 9/11; more federal government education programs were enacted, Medicare was expanded and our civil liberties have been shredded with the enactment of the Patriot Act.

What we’re witnessing now in Washington DC is nothing but a highly choreographed Kabuki with the Democrats playing the handsome lead and the Republicans the ugly duckling. We seen this play before and we know how it all ends – the so-called federal government shutdown is ended, the debt ceiling is raised and the American people keep paying through the nose for the welfare warfare state.

The real issue that needs to be debated in Washington DC is how quickly we can reduce the size and scope of the federal government. We should not hold our breath waiting for that debate to take place, because as of right now the welfare-warfare state is cemented on America, and it will probably take a humongous financial crisis to begin the dismantling of the federal Leviathan.

In the meantime, I’ll be providing video commentary about the economy, financial markets and political developments in New Jersey and in DC. So stay tuned.
