The Dems are being exposed by Wikileaks…

25 Jul

“Julian Assange has done it again: exposed the inner workings – and crimes – of our political class, that is. This time his target is Hillary Clinton and the Democratic National Committee, whose emails were hacked by a Romanian who calls himself “Guccifer 2.0,” and posted online by WikiLeaks. As revelations tumble out of the …”

The Public Pension Problem: It’s Much Worse Than It Appears | Manhattan Institute

25 Jul

“When financial markets slumped in 2008, the assets in government-worker pension funds plunged and public sector retirement debt soared. Although pension officials rushed to assure the public that their funds would recover as soon as stocks rebounded, the long bull market that began the following year didn’t do much to cut states steep retirement debt. Most state and local pension funds closed the books on their latest fiscal year on June 30… early returns suggest that the industry fell well short of its lofty investment goals.”  Read the rest by clicking on the link.

Why is Chris Christie apparently balking at the latest compromise?

24 Jul

Governor Christie should get on board with the latest proposal to fund the Transportation Trust Fund and provide much needed tax relief to the people of New Jersey. Is this a “perfect” compromise?  No.  But we need funds to fix our roads and bridges, lower taxes and lower spending and fewer regulations.  The governor should work on the last two goals ASAP.  Instead of focusing on Trump’s presidential campaign, he should do what he was elected to do–govern.  If he is preoccupied with the presidential campaign, he should resign.

Excellent roundup of what happened in Cleveland

22 Jul

The Trumps are left leaning middle-of-the roaders.  One of Trump’s ideas that is resonating with some libertarians is his skepticism of foreign intervention.

What Donald Trump should have said last night

22 Jul

Donald Trump’s acceptance speech at the Republican convention last night could have been a lot shorter and focused on espousing the virtues of limited government and free enterprise.

First, Donald should have used several props, such as the first 1040 form, which was only four pages long. He should have said that a tax return of 1914 was simple and allowed the federal government to raise the funds it needed to pay for its expenses 100 years ago, when only 2% of the American people had to pay any income tax. In addition, today large and medium-sized businesses need an army of accountants and attorneys to comply with the tax code. That’s money that cannot be used to buy better equipment, modernize their factories, and thus make American workers more productive, which would earn them higher salaries.
